Poll: Help me pick a film to initiate my cousin to Bollywood!

So, I'm going to introduce my cousin to Bollywood soon. And I'm having a hard time picking what film I should start her off with. 3 Idiots has been my go-to generally for initiating folks to Bollywood because it's so roundly good in every way, but I think my cousin may get tired of it two or so hours in, and a more traditionally romantic Bollywood movie may be more up her alley.

Here's a poll of most of my best DVDs so you folks can weigh in. The Netflix thing is also always an option, and some streaming options I've considered are Dostana, I Hate Luv Storys and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. The poll is below the jump break.

Edit: OK, so if the poll isn't working for you (it's being somewhat spazzy), the films I have easily on hand are: 3 Idiots, Lagaan, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, DDLJ, Kites, Ready, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.

  1. Where is Main Hoon Na on this list? This has all the visual and musical elements of a great Bollywood movie, but it has more western humour. It's hard to find a combination like that. But Three Idiots would fit the bill well too.

  2. I put Lagaan on the poll; the length might be a problem but it is definitely gripping and it was nominated for an Oscar! But otherwise try Dostana like you said, a comedy is always good to begin with and it's not too Bollywood-heavy. Don (the new one) is quite a good choice actually, although it's not really Bollywood, it's mostly just an action. If your friend likes romance and especially Shakespearian romance (such as Romeo and Juliet), how about Jodhaa Akbar? I personally love that film.

  3. Joss: I don't have access to Main Hoon Na, sadly. :(

Dhruv: Yeah, that was my misgiving about Lagaan too. I love Lagaan, and it's also got some English to balance it out, but it is REALLY long. And the cricket may be too much for her. And Jodhaa Akbar is actually a really good suggestion... I love that film too.
